Sometimes we lose vision, and we're blinded by our desires,
but the Lord always cares about us, and he always inspires
a servant of his to show each of us some clues
that he will always love us, and his guidance, we'll never lose.
From our birth to our death, he will always be there
to cleanse us of our sins and enable us to care
and love every one of our brothers and sisters in his name,
for he loves us so much, he totally cleansed everyone's shame.

Excerpt
As an only child with a single parent, I knew the odds were against me. I knew that not having a father in the house or my life had marked me to be unsuccessful. However, I was determined to be successful. I wasn't going to fail and that is where pride found the open door. Pride is a very dangerous thing. It can hinder you in asking for help. It can conjure up truths that you didn't know existed within you. It can have you make decisions that aren't completely thought through. Pride displays a person that is contrary to who you believe yourself to be. Pride had set up camp in my life, and I didn't know it until what I thought was too late.

About the Book
Beauty for Ashes is the inaugural book in The Father's Daughters Anthology Series. Eight women gather together to show how God transforms wounds for worship, pain for praise, and tragedy for triumph. These real-life experiences show sour lemons turning into sweet delights. It is a testament to how life changes for the better when faith allows God to comfort, heal, and love His daughters.

Why writing is a form of personal Therapy:

My writing as a form of personal therapy began over 30 years ago.
Sometime during the Jesus Movement in the late 1970’s I gave my life to Jesus.  I was given a gospel track called The Four Spiritual Laws.  God used that little track to open the eyes of my understanding and for me to surrender my life to Him.  I have never looked back.

Just because you become a Christian and partner with the Creator of the Universe, it does not mean you will begin to live an easy life.  In fact, it may be that all hell will break out against you to try to cause you to renounce your faith.   Or just simple, subtle temptations come to entice you to compromise your faith.

I learned quickly that prayer and praise are very powerful weapons in our arsenal as Christians.

2 Corinthians 10: 3-5
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

I joined a group of women who had a weekly prayer meeting.  Believers who pray God’s word fervently and faithfully are sometimes called Prayer Warriors. These women were Prayer Warriors!

Do you remember the movie WAR ROOM, Miss Clara, played by actress Karen Abercrombie was a “simple” woman but a mighty woman of faith and prayer, A Prayer Warrior!

I felt like Elizabeth (played by actress Priscilla Shirer) whose marriage and life in general was falling apart but God led her to Miss Clara who taught her how to pray.

I remembered receiving journals for Christmas and birthday gifts as a little girl. They were usually pastel in color with a little key probably used to keep your little sister from reading all your hidden thoughts and telling your Mother.  I hadn’t had one in years but remembered while in a Christian book store they had a wide selection of prayer journals.

I wanted to begin to write down my prayers, the cries of my heart as well as the blessings received.  I wanted to be able to remember all the mighty works of God in my life and those I’ve prayed with and for over the years.

I have thousands of pages of journal writings over the years. Prayer Journaling IS my therapy.

If you have never tried journaling especially while praying, try it; you’ll grow to love it, resulting in a more intimate relationship with our Lord.

About The Book

You have a call on your life. My desire is to encourage you to live life in fulfillment of that call. Following the example of Joan of Arc, you can be inspired to live out your purpose in first hearing from God and then taking your stand in following Him. Just as Joan of Arc could step forth in full confidence under the banner of her calling, so we too are under God’s banner as we step out to fulfill our purpose. Hearts of Purpose brings you ten real-life stories about ten ordinary women doing extraordinary things for the Glory of God. As you read of how God called these women to service, you will be motivated to explore His call in your own life. Let this reading experience be an invitation for you to take a step closer to fulfilling your God-given calling in Christ Jesus.

Mary Ann Ambroselli (chapter 1 starting on page 21)

On January 5, 1965, at 10:18 p.m. I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, weighing 8 pounds, 10 ounces. I was told when the baby was born that I would not see him or be able to hold him, and that he would be taken to his awaiting adoptive parents. I also knew that adoptive parents often did not tell their adopted child that they were adopted, so chances were that he would never know about me. The morning after he was born, a nurse who did not know my baby was being adopted brought him to me and laid him in my arms. Another nurse came in right away and apologized for the mistake, and took him away. To this day, I am grateful for that moment. I was able to look into his face and tell him I was doing this because I loved him and wanted him to have a life that a two-parent family could give him. The image of his perfect little face is imbedded in my memory. To date, I do not know anything about him or if he knows he was adopted. I continue to pray for him! As I left the hospital with my mom, depression and sadness set in. I struggled with the meaning of life and what to do next. I did not want to go to church. Facing people there would be much too hard. Besides, all that had happened in my life did not reveal to me that God was loving or compassionate. And, I was sure He did not care about me. I spent my days crying a lot. I had six weeks from the day of my baby’s birth to change my mind about adoption, which I did consider. Dad said there was no way he would support me and the baby. Since I had no idea what I would do or how to support myself with a baby I decided that signing the adoption papers was best for all involved. Even though he may never read this, the following poem written for my son has brought me a lot of comfort.

Blood Mother Farewell
I’ve carried you beneath my heart, and now must let you go. That you will not remember this, or me, as I do you. The years will take you even farther from my reach and view. Now other eyes will cherish you, and other arms embrace, Now other tears will fall for you, and other voices sing, Yet this I do, that you may never want for anything; not even distant echoes of my weeping as we part; The name I name you, or the thunder of my breaking heart.

Excerpt

You made it---you finally made it! You are the guest of honor at the fabulous bash thrown to celebrate the audacious decision you’ve made to pursue a life of abundance, power and liberty. When it comes to getting what you want out of life, the single most important thing to know is that God has already blessed your path. Joshua 1:3 says, “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses.” (NLT) Now, with the realization of this beautiful promise, all you must do is choose. Choose to construct a masterpiece life built on a deep understanding of the God you serve and your Divine purpose. I love to call this your MasterPurpose. Clarity about your MasterPurpose will impact how you will show up in the world and leave your mark as an Entrepreneur.

When you decide to step out of your own way and into beautiful alignment with your MasterPurpose, all things are possible. This is a brave c hoice and not for the scared, timid or weak leader. It is a declaration to the world that you believe your life, purpose, message and talents are worth fighting for. To reach our fullest potential, we must train ourselves to have an audacious mindset, which frames how we perceive and respond to situations especially adversity. An audacious mindset is the defining factor between experiencing a life of abundance or scarcity. Remaining connected to your MasterPurpose requires a shift in your thinking and actions. It requires a deep and intimate relationship with God.

I yearn to be close and in the presence of God. The battle wounds and scars of life have taught me one important lesson. As I have matured as a believer, I have learned that I am nothing without an intimate relationship with my creator. For in his presence, all things are made new. More specifically, in his presence all believers have access to God’s peace, love, mercy and wisdom. Our close relationship with God activates our MasterPurpose, the Divine plan for our life. He shows us the desires of His heart for us and is the source of our own ambition. He inspires us to dream big and desire radical success in every area and level of our lives. Your MasterPurpose could be a ministry, an entrepreneurial venture, a book, a family or even a school. Your MasterPurpose births your entrepreneurial venture. It could be a book, a clothing company, a law practice or even a school. It is the idea you believe God has commissioned you to lead to benefit His people. We all have been called to be leaders of faith entrusted with an assignment to fulfill while here on Earth.

About The Book

Have you ever wondered why after watching a movie you are left with a residue of emotions? Perhaps after the credits have rolled off of your screen, you've experienced a sense of peace, empowerment, exhilaration, fear or maybe a better understanding of how to deal with a personal issue you've struggled with.

Whether we are a believer in God or not, everyone will come to a place where the choices they've made will lead them to asking themselves, "How did I get here?" And as we run from co-workers and then to friends and family pleading for an answer as to how it all went so wrong, we will still have to choose, in the end, which path we'll take. Don't be fooled, because once you decide it is you and only you who will ultimately have to live those choices out.

Beyond the Face of the Movies will show you at heart just how similar we all are and whether you see your life resembling a Hollywood movie or a real life biblical character you will discover, underneath all the glitz and the glam, that people are still the same when it comes to making mistakes.

Many times God challenges us to go deeper than the surface of the movie, in hope that we will discover principles that can be gleaned from beneath the excitement and buzz of the film.

By juxtaposing Hollywood movies and biblical characters, the author connects the dots for the reader so that they are guided through fundamental biblical truths in order to better understand and navigate through their own life challenges on a daily basis.

What does Bruce Almighty have in common with the biblical Samson? What is Prophet Jonah doing in the Wizard of Oz instead of going down to Nineveh? Find out in this fun and feisty easy-to-read book, and while you are at it - take the time to look beyond the surface of the movie and you will sense God speaking to you in encouraging, practical and at times convicting ways.

My Review:

In this unique nonfiction book, the author gives us insight into some popular and/or beloved movies (including a couple of my all-time favorites) and parallels them with biblical stories, highlighting biblical principles and lessons by breaking them down in understandable and practical terms, all the while infusing the chapters with some of her own personal experiences.

Themes covered include the importance of gratefulness, the consequences of misusing power, the ups and downs of success, perseverance, and self-discovery.

The author summarizes the movies in such a way that makes the reader want to rush out to Best Buy and grab copies of these movies, pop some popcorn, and have an open-Bible viewing party. The way in which she connects these movies to stories of the Bible is eye-opening and innovative, and I found myself smiling, nodding, and amening throughout the book.

I can't say enough good things about this book. If you're a movie-lover and a Christian, you'll truly enjoy reading it!

5 stars

Blessed

From the day you were born,
you were a blessing.
You were a comfort and
inspiration to those around you.
You suffered enormous tragedies
and faced many challenges.
You suffered a great deal
and life as you saw it was over.
Each day seemed like an eternity—
every moment seemed everlasting.
You went in with your eyes closed,
but came out with them wide open.
You fell to your knees and asked,
why, why me?
Not realizing that your trials
would prepare you for your future.
Not knowing you were a blessed child
and you were called for a purpose.
Many obstacles came your way
and the enemy tried to bring you down.
He never wanted you to succeed,
let alone see the light of day.
Your cries reached up to God.
He said, You are my child.
No matter where you go,
I will be with you.
You are blessed.
Blessed you shall be,
and blessed you shall continue to be;
not only to yourself, but to others.

Guest Post: Abby Kelly, author of Beyond Belief

BEYONDBELIEFNRCPHARPERBANNER

Guest Post:

Ever feel like you're hitting a brick wall with all your best intentions? Before you know it, all the good, God-serving things that gave you a sense of calling and mission lay in shambles at your feet, leaving you to wonder why you thought they were so great in the first place:

Maybe you heard God wrong.

Maybe He never called you in the first place.

Maybe you’re just not up to the task.

Maybe you over estimated yourself.

Maybe …

In the course of one week, half of my “calling” seemed to disintegrate. As a writer, who seeks to lead others to develop a strong relationship with Jesus, I felt like an utter failure.

I’m struggling to promote a book that I believe God compelled me to write. A generous local business offered to host a book signing for me. Only three people showed up—and they were all my friends just there to support me. And they already owned the book.

I’m an editor for a Christian website that I love and fully believe in. Last week, the founder emailed with discouraging news.

I decided to host a Bible study in my home and invited all my neighbors. Five women seemed excited and committed to attend. Before nine Monday morning, all but one had cancelled.

What do you do when all your “good-God things” go bad?

How do you quickly redefine your purpose, your calling, when everything you set out to do suddenly seems small, worthless, ineffective and empty?

I sat on the floor debating whether or not to cry. What now, God? Should I just quit this whole writing thing? Am I just not meant to be a leader?

A verse floated across my mind:

“Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” Galatians 6:9

But how do you not lose heart when nothing seems to succeed, when you feel completely unproductive with nothing to show for your efforts?

Recently, I learned the origin of the modern definition of productivity:

“In the late 1870s … Frederick Winslow Taylor produced the first efficiency study and in doing so created the practice of ‘scientific management,’ from which we ultimately were given the concept of ‘productivity,’ a linguistic construction of the words product and activity, or ‘product activity,’ as it were.” (Desiring God, Rick Segal, November 1, 2015)

As concise as that sounds, I don’t think that definition of productivity is the kind that pleases God. It’s certainly not the kind exemplified in the life of the man who penned Galatians 6:9.

“Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the forty lashes less one. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea … “ 2 Corinthians 11:24-25

Not exactly a stellar resume. But if you know Paul’s story, you know that the greatest harvest was sown and reaped in the constructs of chaos and seeming failure.

Paul was confident in his calling, if not in its immediate consequence. Paul was mindful of his mission, if not in its momentum.

There’s a lot than can appear discouraging—even like outright failure. There are a lot of reasons to lose heart. But we must not.

First Corinthians 15:58 says, “ … Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

Your work in the Lord is not in vain. Don’t lay down your calling in search of a better plan just because reason (and pride) tells you to. Remember, God uses the small things, the small beginnings, the foolish things. (Zechariah 4:10, 1 Corinthians 1:27)

And, “He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

The not growing weary is your job, the harvest is His.

Does your life look the same as it did the day you put your faith in Jesus Christ? Or have you discovered the power of the Spirit within you enabling you to live a holy, righteous life? For that matter, is it even possible to be holy? Many Christians today are wading in the shallow end of the infinite relationship God desires to have with His children. They are strangled by addictions and idolatry, or distracted from the pursuit of spiritual maturity by a cheap imitation of moralism. Whatever the reason, their spiritual growth has been stunted; they’ve never gone beyond mere belief in Jesus Christ. Beyond Belief: Jesus Saved You ... Now What? explores what God has in store for you and what He wants from you. With a firm foundation on the centrality of Christ, this book will help you see exactly who you are and what you are called to, based on, and enabled by, His righteousness alone. Through intense study and humbling application of both the Old and New Testaments, Beyond Belief, will show you what a mature Christian life looks like and what it takes to get there.
