An #Interview with W Frank Mooney, Author of Cover

Greetings, everyone!! Let's get to know Author W Frank Mooney!!

Who is your hero?
My father. He was the foundation of my manhood, how I learned how to take care of my family, treat my wife, all of that.

Aww, that's sweet! If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Probably on the east coast. I hate heat. I hate mosquitoes. I like nice clothes, and it’s difficult to be fashion-ready in high heat and high humidity.

I'm not a big fan of the heat here in the south, either, lol. What would you change about yourself if you could?
I would change my lack of trust in others. I usually don’t trust anyone to do anything; I’d rather do it myself. This becomes problematic because I get overwhelmed and hinder my own progress.

I have that issue, too. What really makes you angry?
Impatience. If you’re patient and assess the situation, a lot of unnecessary faults can be prevented.

I agree! What motivates you to work hard?
My family

Excellent motivation. :) What makes you laugh the most?
People. Watching people in their respective elements. It’s amazing how we deny our own predictability and human nature all while simultaneously fulfilling them.

What was the last movie you went to? What did you think?
Straight Outta Compton. I liked it. The film humanized the group and instead of making them a caricature or ignorant.

I really enjoyed that movie, too. Would you rather ride a bike, ride a horse, or drive a car?
Drive a car

What would you sing at Karaoke night?
Careless Whisper by George Michael, with an accompanying Schmoney Dance.

What two radio stations do you listen to in the car the most?
Power 92 Jams (Hip-Hop/R&B), but usually I just listen to various Pandora stations on my phone.

Which would you rather do: wash dishes, mow the lawn, clean the bathroom, or vacuum the house?
Mow the lawn

Tell us about your book.

Blurb:
What if good and evil existed for one another? What happens when people decide to take salvation into their own hands? What if Judas was all a part of the plan? Strange things are happening and all roads lead to a local cult by the name of Saints of Iscariot. The city of Little Rock, Arkansas, is under silent attack as Detective James Gilliam returns home for an unexpected turn of events.

In an effort to save a city along with his own sanity, he finds that even the best intentions still fall short of their mark.

Excerpt:
The girl paced steadily toward her destiny as her eyes welled with tears.  She moved through the crowd, focusing on the main stage with purpose behind each step.  The clarity of her duty toward her brothers and sisters in the great struggle for redemption and those who were not aware of their transgressions helped guide her decision.  Thoughts of her family flooded her conscious. They would have to understand. This was the will of God.

Through a crowd of careless patrons, she felt like she was walking into a slaughter.  She wore an orange sundress that accented her beautiful, sandy brown hair which reflected the final evidence of sunlight. Her breaths became more shortened as the distance between her current place and her destiny closed.  In her right hand was a silver blade that she held under her prayer beads. Her flip flops sounded off each time her foot left the ground.  She was almost there.

Climbing on the stage was the scariest part of the ordeal for her.  While the security guards were not looking, she snuck to the steps on the side of the stage.  With each step, her legs became heavier and her stomach began to turn flips as she thought about the task staring her in the face.  There was no turning back.  As she made her way to center stage, the crowd cheered loudly.  All of the voices directed toward her eased her mind. The people were ready to be exposed to an experience they would never forget.  In her mind, they were motivating her to become what they needed.  She raised her hand in authority to hush the chaos.

“Thus said the Lord,” she shouted in a strong voice, “present your body as a living sacrifice.”  The security officers did not know if this was a part of the show.  They waited.

With that single proclamation, she touched the cross on her back.  It was completely healed.  She’d finally reached redemption.  A tear slowly formed and drifted down her bronze cheek.  After a final prayer, she raised the blade to her throat.

Author Interview: Barbara Joe Williams

Greetings!! Today I get to share my interview with one of my dearest author friends, bestselling author, Barbara Joe Williams. Read below to learn all about her and her wonderful books!!

Author Barbara Joe Williams

"After I turned forty and experienced a mid-life crisis, I decided to face my fears."

AT: Where are you from?
BJW: I was born and raised in Rosston, Arkansas.

AT: Where do you live now?
BJW: Currently, I live in Tallahassee, Florida. I’ve been here since 1983.

AT: Did you always know you wanted to be a writer?
BJW: Yes, I’ve always wanted to write, but I was afraid to try. After I turned forty and experienced a mid-life crisis, I decided to face my fears.

AT: When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?
BJW: I started writing my first novel titled, Forgive Us This Day, in November 2003. Two months later, I had over two hundred pages. I shared it with ten friends and family members. They all loved it, and later on, I decided to get an editor to help me further develop the story. It was self-published in November 2004.

AT: How did you choose the genre you write in?
BJW: Romance was an easy choice for me because that’s mainly all I’ve ever enjoyed reading. I also love reading stories about strong women so my books are classified as romance and women’s fiction.

AT: Where do you get your ideas?
BJW: All of my ideas have come from everyday living and some of the people that I’ve met during my travels. I love writing about realistic characters and storylines.

AT: Name one book that you would categorize as a life changing read.
BJW: It would have to be I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. I grew up in rural Arkansas like she did, and that book motivated me make my professional dreams come true. I still have my paperback copy after all these years.

AT: Who is your favorite author?
BJW: My favorite author is Terry McMillan. Ever since I read Waiting to Exhale, she’s been my favorite.

AT: Name one book you wish you’d written.
BJW: Waiting to Exhale. I would be rich today and living on the beach in California.

AT: Tell us about your latest book.
BJW: My latest eBook is titled, A Cup of Barbara Joe. This book is a collection of things I’ve learned about life, marriage, motherhood and people from over fifty years of living. Some of these discernments and experiences have been shared on social media, but most of them have not. Find a comfortable reading chair and enjoy a strong cup of Barbara Joe.

AT: How can readers connect with you?
BJW: I’m on Facebook and Twitter, but I also have a website and Amazon page.

Email: amanipublishing@aol.com
Please visit my Amazon Author’s Page for more details: http://ow.ly/EdeDI

AT: What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
BJW: My motto is this: Writing is a hobby, but publishing is a business. Therefore, I would advise authors to learn as much as they can about the publishing industry before stepping (or jumping) into it. Once you’re published, you’re an entrepreneur. It’s up to you to market your product to the best of your abilities or hire someone who can.

Thanks for the interview. My next nonfiction eBook release is February 5 titled, A-Z Marketing Tips: A Motivational Guide to Selling Your Products. CLICK HERE to pre-order your copy today!

The next fiction eBook release is February 12 titled, Holiday Hotel 2: A Valentine’s Day story.

Greg Stafford has been hiding an explosive secret for years. When his secret is exposed, he is ashamed and humiliated.

Rhani Drake is an expert at helping people uncover the root of their problems. But when Greg Stafford enters her life, she doesn’t know how to handle the feelings he uncovers in her.

Will his scandal destroy her career and credibility?

Excerpt

The gentle chime on the front door sounded, and Rhani waited until her receptionist escorted him into the office. Before her stood one of the best looking men she had ever seen, which was quite an accomplishment in a city the size of New York.
“Mr. Stafford? Rhani Drake. Nice to meet you.” They shook hands, and she mentally chastised herself for the prickling sensation running across her skin when their flesh touched. She had seen him numerous times on TV, yet meeting him in person was a jolt to her senses. The first thing she noticed was his height. He towered over her five-feet-six inches. His scent registered with her senses next. The cologne he wore had a luxurious, spicy fragrance¾a mix of grass, cloves, jasmine and some other delicious scents. Dressed casually yet stylishly, his appearance came across as easy-going and self-confident.
Rhani glanced up just in time to catch his questioning expression.
“Is there something wrong?”
He removed his hat but kept the shades on. “No. It’s just…I expected you to be older.”
For some reason, hearing this pleased her. “Is my age a problem? I assure you I am well-qualified.” Rhani pointed to her framed diplomas on the office wall then waved a hand toward the sofa.  “Please have a seat.”
He sat with his long legs open, his elbows on his knees and studied the room for a long moment. “Nice office.” The emotionless tone of his voice didn’t convey his appreciation.
“Thank you.” Once she settled into the chair at the end of the sofa, she crossed her legs and rested her notebook on one knee. “Tell me why you’re here.”
He flashed the dazzling smile she’d seen on the TV screen so many times. Her stomach flipped, and she wanted to slap herself. “You already know why. I’m sure Thad told you when he made the appointment.”
Annoyed by her sensual reaction to his presence, Rhani purposely didn’t return his smile. “He did, but I’d like to hear your take on the situation. And do you mind taking off the sunglasses? I like to make eye contact with my clients.”
He poked out his lips, moved them from side to side then pulled of the shades and put them in his shirt pocket. “I got arrested for…having sex in public, which constitutes breaking the morals clause in my contract. In order to keep my job, I have to attend counseling for a minimum of three months.”
“Is that the only reason you’re here?
“Excuse me?” He met her gaze for the first time since he’d arrived, and she had to look away. His light eyes were evident on television, but looking into them in person was a different story. They were hazel—an intriguing combination of several other colors including green and brown with less melanin than brown eyes, but more than blue.  Why would she even be thinking about this at the moment? Rhani blinked, straightened and returned to her questioning. “Did you come to counseling to keep your job or to deal with the reason the therapy was ordered to begin with?”
A muscle ticked in his jaw, a square jaw covered by a smooth, neatly trimmed beard. “I need my job.” His voice deepened in timbre and intensity.
“I think you’ve answered my question. You’re saying you don’t want to be here.”
He gave an insolent shrug.

#TBT - Been So Long

For Throwback Thursday, I thought I'd share an excerpt from what has been, and still is, my top selling book--Been So Long. Enjoy and feel free to grab a copy!

In Little Rock, I slowed as I passed the office of Cardiothoracic Associates of Central Arkansas. It was the office that Dr. Wasif Masood shared with Dr. Fahad Masood, his father. Both were successful cardiothoracic surgeons, well respected in Arkansas. I slowed even more when I saw Wasif’s shiny, midnight blue Range Rover. I ached a little. I wished I could walk in there and surprise him. I wished I was his wife. But I wasn’t his wife and wishing was a waste of time.
The blaring of car horns behind me snapped me out of my thoughts and made me realize that I’d come to a complete stop and was blocking traffic. I don’t know why, but I hit my turn signal and pulled into the parking lot at Wasif’s office. Maybe I just felt bold or maybe I’d lost my mind, but for whatever reason, I found myself parking in front of the office. I pulled on a pair of Fendi sunglasses, grabbed my Gucci purse, and headed into the office.
I smiled as I walked through the nearly packed waiting area and approached the receptionist’s window. A blond-headed young lady returned my smile and said, “Can I help you?” Her southern accent was thick, almost comical.
I nodded. “Yes, I don’t have an appointment or anything, but I was wondering if I could see Dr. Wasif Masood. He was my mother’s surgeon, and I need to ask him some questions.” It was a believable lie.
“Oh, well, what’s your mother’s name?”
“Just tell him that Mo Dandridge needs to speak with him. He’ll remember me.”
She shrugged and gave me a skeptical look. “Ok, but even if he agrees to see you, it may take awhile. He has a lot of appointments this morning.” Wanna bet?
I nodded. “I understand.”
I took the only vacant seat, which was right underneath the flat-screen TV that hung on the wall, and smiled at the rainbow of patients in the waiting area. I’d only been sitting and waiting for two minutes when she told me that he was ready to see me. I hadn’t even had time to flip through the magazine I’d picked up. I thanked her as she led me to his office.
“Thanks, Paula,” Wasif said to the receptionist. “Ms. Dandridge, how can I help you?”
The room smelled of the familiar scent of his cologne. I waited for him to close and lock the door, and then I smiled and whispered, “I really need your help, doctor. I missed you.”
With wide eyes, he said, “Mo, what in the world are you doing here? What if my father sees you here? I’ll never hear the end of it.”
I pointed to the huge window behind his cluttered desk. “Then you’d better close the blinds.”
He nodded. “You’re right.” As he turned and walked to the window, he said, “Mo, you’ve got to go. I’ll call you later.”
I looked around the office as I stepped out of my heels. Behind his huge mahogany desk sat an empty executive chair. There were framed diplomas on the ecru wall from The University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. I could see a picture frame lying flat on the bookcase beside me. Probably a picture of his wife and daughters. I laid my purse in the burgundy leather chair in front of his desk, and when he turned back around, I’d stripped out of my skinny jeans and blouse and was wearing nothing but my matching pink underwear. I tilted my head to the side and gave him an innocent look. “I should go?”
He bucked his eyes as I slowly walked towards him. “Um…Mo…”
I sat on top of the desk without bothering to move any of the papers. I grabbed his hand and pulled him closer to me. He smiled. “W…what are you doing, babe?”
I kissed him softly. “I told you. I missed you, doctor,” I whined.
He nodded as I loosened his tie, unbuttoned his collar, and kissed his neck. “Uh…I missed you, too, but y…you can’t just show up like this, babe.”
I shrugged. “Ok, doctor. I’ll go then.” I tried to slide off of his desk, but he blocked me.
He leaned over and kissed me as he pulled his dress shirt out of his pants. “No, Ms. Dandridge. First, you’ve got to finish what you’ve started.”
“What about your patients, Dr. Masood?”
He smiled as he laid me back on his desk. “They can wait. This is an emergency.”
