Sometimes we lose vision, and we're blinded by our desires,
but the Lord always cares about us, and he always inspires
a servant of his to show each of us some clues
that he will always love us, and his guidance, we'll never lose.
From our birth to our death, he will always be there
to cleanse us of our sins and enable us to care
and love every one of our brothers and sisters in his name,
for he loves us so much, he totally cleansed everyone's shame.

Synopsis:

Sitting there with the pieces of your life around you, there seemed to be a pattern. There was faith, love, deceit, lust, and loss—in that order. You didn’t think you were deserving of love. That is why everything was being taken from you, and you were ready to give up on life.

Through your poetry, faith, and learning from your past, you can rewrite the story. It was after coming through all the experiences and being stronger, you realized there is always a new chapter.

The book will take you on the journey of a young girl growing up in Connecticut, who had to take some stumbles along the way to come into her own and realize instead of tearing herself down for the decisions she made, there is a lesson. Love is greater than anyone can imagine and can warm you like the sunshine after the rain.

You went from the beginning, the journey, the test, and the testimony to say, “There Is Sunshine after the Rain.”

Excerpt:

Turn Back The Hands of Time
I am standing on the edge
Looking out at the land
The land where you farmed
The land where you broke your back to make a way
I look at your hands that are rugged, swollen, and show the scars
You never gave up because you said you wanted a better life for us
There was never an alarm clock to wake you
You didn’t complain about going to work because it was what you had to do
You talked about the amount of cotton you picked from sun up to sun down
You told the stories that your hands were raw until they bled
As I rode down the highways
Looking at the fields of cotton
My eyes welled up
I asked to stop the car
I got out and I breathed the air
I can only imagine
You shared the tales of having to drop out of school so that you could work the fields
I stretch out my hands now
Though they resemble yours, they have never worked in the field
My hands are smooth like a city girl
If I could turn back the hands of time
I would let you be the childhood boy
Experience the things that you missed growing up
I would let you go to school
You would be an architect
You always liked building things
I understand that I can’t
That was the road that you had to travel
The journey wasn’t always sweet
But if I could! I would! Turn back the hands of time

#WriterWednesday with Poet Shaumese Massey

Today's author interview is with Poet Shaumese Massey!!
Check her out!!

AT: Where do you live? What’s your town’s claim to fame?
SM: I currently live in Tallahassee but I'm from Monticello, FL. Monticello is a small town and people often joke that Monticello is right around the corner from Tallahassee. I sometimes say I'm from Tallahassee because of this and because I've lived in Tallahassee for a few years.

Claim to fame? Tallahassee is known as a college town and also because it's the capitol. I'm not sure about Monticello but I do know it's a very small town, it's known for the Watermelon Festival, the Opera House, haunted houses, and it was named after Thomas Jefferson's Virginia home.

AT: Nice! What genre do you write?
SM: I write poetry but I do plan on writing drama, thriller, and inspirational fiction in the near future.

AT: I love poetry, dabble a little myself. Are you a published author or aspiring to be published? If published, how many books are out there with your name on them?
SM: I am a published author!! I recently published my first poetry book, Unapologetically Me, on March 31st. My plan is to publish two or more poetry books which will be sequels to my first one.

AT: Putting it on my list! What inspires you to write?
SM: Life inspires me to write. I tend to write about life experiences. Things that people can relate to. Things that will give hope, encouragement, and inspiration. I'm also inspired to write because for me writing is simply a way for me to communicate and express myself.

AT: I can definitely relate. Name one book you wish you’d written.
SM: I don't have a book I wish I'd written. All the books that I want to write, I will write.

AT: I like the sound of that! What was the last book you read? Did you enjoy it?
SM: I read "You Mean the World to Me" by Author Alicia Hall. I really loved this book! It's one of those books you can't put down.

AT: Oh, I'm adding that one to my list, too! Who is your favorite author? Why?
SM: I don't really have a favorite author but I love Brandon Massey, R.L Stine, Lemony Snicket, Tiffany L. Warren, and Jacquelin Thomas to name a few.

AT: Now for the fun questions! You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
SM: I would be "Girly Pink" because I love pink! It's my favorite color and it goes well with my skin color.

AT: Cute name! What would your autobiography be called?
SM: I'm not sure what my autobiography would be called but it would say something about overcoming.

AT: Love it! Do you believe in love at first sight?
SM: I do believe in love at first. Dating is different today than how it was years ago. I wish that dating would be more traditional because it has changed but I definitely believe love at first sight is possible.

AT: If a genie granted you three wishes, what would they be? (can't ask for more wishes)
SM: If a genie granted me three wishes, I would wish for time with my paternal grandmother, more money, and money for my parents so they can pay off all their bills and be taken care of.

AT: Great wishes! Are you spring, summer, fall, or winter? Please share why.
SM: I am spring simply because it's warm around this time, it's beginning of the year, and the picture I get in my mind of spring is colors.

AT: I'm a fan of spring, too. Tea or coffee?
SM: Coffee. I'm actually not sure if coffee wakes me up but it makes me feel like an adult and that I'm being productive. I also like the fact that it's hot and there are different flavors.

AT: Good points. Tell us about your most recent/current project.
SM: I recently published my first poetry book on March 31st. I've always wanted to be a writer so I'm very proud of this accomplishment.

I started writing the poems as a way to cope with hurt. I had recently experienced what some call church hurt and my friend encouraged me to get alone and write unapologetically. This is where the title, Unapologetically Me, comes from, I wrote unapologetically so my poems are raw, honest, and real. I put it all out there and told the truth. I wrote about what I was experiencing, what I was thinking, and how I felt.  I plan to write more books as sequels to this book.

AT: How can readers connect with you?
SM: Readers can connect with me on Facebook under my name Shaumese Latiahra Massey. The address is www.facebook.com/masseyshaumese. Readers can reach me through email at massey.shaumese@gmail.com or through phone at 850-629-8577.

AT: Any final words?
SM: I'm very thankful for the opportunity to be accomplishing dreams and for all the support and encouragement I have received.

#WriterWednesday with Author Eartha Watts Hicks

Today's #WriterWednesday interview is with the lovely Eartha Watts Hicks. Let's get to know her!!

AT: Where do you live? What’s your town’s claim to fame?
EWH: I claim the Bronx, Harlem, and New York equally. Their claims to fame would be Yankee Stadium, The Apollo Theater, and Broadway/Times Square respectively.

AT: Okay, city girl, huh? What genre do you write?
EWH: I write women’s literary fiction, set in the inner-city, based on true-to-life everyday, urban professional characters.

AT: I love it!! Are you a published author or aspiring to be published? If published, how many books are out there with your name on them?
EWH: I independently publish myself and others (as a subcontractor). I have a stand-alone novel that has been serialized and Graffiti Mural, a collection of poetry and short fiction. I have edited several titles, participated in an anthology, and have fostered the process of several writers aspiring to self-publish.

AT: I love that you've helped others see their literary dreams become reality!! What inspires you to write?
EWH: Writing is my gift. I can write about anything, as that is the way I express my thoughts, dreams, wishes, concerns, and frustrations.  It is my hope that the information and stories I share can shed light, ease someone else’s discomfort, or provide them a little bit of joy for that while.

AT: We have similar goals :) Name one book you wish you’d written.
EWH: Joy by Marsha Hunt. This was the first women’s fiction drama that introduced an element of surprise. I read it decades ago but it is still among my favorites to this day.

AT: Oh, I've definitely got to check that on out! What was the last book you read? Did you enjoy it?
EWH: I am currently reading I Can’t make this Up by Kevin Hart. It’s hilarious. The last book I completed was The Thirty Year Diet - The Journey of Me, Fat Girl and My FOPA by Robin Nutter, which is a memoir but more about the inner weight conversations we all have with ourselves. I enjoyed it.

AT: Sounds interesting! Who is your favorite author? Why?
EWH: To choose one, I would have to say Chris Abani, because his books are ingenious and completely out of the box.

AT: Oh, my! I've got to check him out for sure! Now for the fun questions! You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
EWH: Earthy. Friends say I’m earthy. And besides, Crayola brown was never exactly right.

AT: Love it! What would your autobiography be called?
EWH: How Many Miracles in Your Life Do You Need To See Before You Realize You’re Not Lucky.

AT: I'm feeling that title for sure! Do you believe in love at first sight?
EWH: Yes, but I also believe that trust must be earned…and does take time.

AT: I agree. If a genie granted you three wishes, what would they be? (can't ask for more wishes)
EWH: That would be perfect health, a beautiful and paid-for home, financial stability. As long as I have those three, am usually off running to champion a cause or two.

AT: Nice! Are you spring, summer, fall, or winter? Please share why.
EWH: Summer. I love warmer weather. I seriously injured my left hand in a kitchen accident a few years back. Colder weather makes me very uncomfortable.

AT: Tea or coffee?
EWH: Coffee.

AT: Tell us about your most recent/current project.
EWH: My latest project is Graffiti Mural. Graffiti Mural is a collection of poetry, personal essays, and flash fiction available on Amazon in paperback and on Kindle. To purchase, visit www.tinyurl.com/GraffitiMuralBook.

EXCERPT:
One late night, my cousin and I got dressed up and went to a night club that was known to be a celebrity hot spot. While we were there, all night, we were dancing and mingling with the famous and familiar. A well-known actor took a serious liking to my beautiful cousin. As a result, we were invited to the red-carpet movie premier and after party for, get this, THE BEST MAN.
We could not attend the movie premier, because she had to work, so we went straight to the after party. Very few had arrived early. So we sat on a sofa positioned behind a coffee table. On the other side of the table, was another sofa. Two young, chic, beautiful black women, much like ourselves approached and sat on that sofa. The way we looked, we could’ve all been part of the same girlfriend crew or even related.

I leaned over and said, “Hi!”

One of the young women looked at me and said, “Hi! Are you in the business?”

I smiled and said, “No.”

She grimaced, turned her whole body to the side, put up “the hand,” and ignored me, by engaging her friend in conversation, “Anyway! Blah, blah, blah, blah....”

My cousin and I looked at each other and shook our heads. When her actor friend entered the club, he found us. And, all night long and as if we were royalty, he graciously introduced us both (by name) to the entire cast of the movie and the who’s who of Black Hollywood.

After her gracious friend, stepped away to bring us drinks, the young woman I had spoken to NOW humbly asked, “Y’all know them?”

Now, as if on cue, my cousin and I both said, “Yeah! Anyway....” And those words were punctuated by the very same body language she had given us earlier. Rolling neck, pursed lips, talk-to-the-hand gesture and all.

We never saw that actor or his friends again, except for on television, but for me, that moment was as priceless as a MasterCard.

AT: How can readers connect with you?

#PoetryThursday - Imperfect

Imperfect

I ain't perfect
Ain't wrapped in cellophane
Ain't spit shined and glossed up
Ain't no glitter on me
Ain't no applause when I enter the room
Ain't no makeup that'll help
Ain't no diets that'll fix it
Ain't no high fashion that'll mask it
Ain't no fake smile that'll force it
I ain't perfect
And that's all right with me

Blessed

From the day you were born,
you were a blessing.
You were a comfort and
inspiration to those around you.
You suffered enormous tragedies
and faced many challenges.
You suffered a great deal
and life as you saw it was over.
Each day seemed like an eternity—
every moment seemed everlasting.
You went in with your eyes closed,
but came out with them wide open.
You fell to your knees and asked,
why, why me?
Not realizing that your trials
would prepare you for your future.
Not knowing you were a blessed child
and you were called for a purpose.
Many obstacles came your way
and the enemy tried to bring you down.
He never wanted you to succeed,
let alone see the light of day.
Your cries reached up to God.
He said, You are my child.
No matter where you go,
I will be with you.
You are blessed.
Blessed you shall be,
and blessed you shall continue to be;
not only to yourself, but to others.

#WriterWednesday - Greatness #poetry

GREATNESS

Is it wrong to see greatness in myself?
To know that a power rests in my soul?
Is it wrong to desire to be nothing less than a queen who sits upon a throne?
Is it wrong to hold my head up high, to know my worth, to understand the what, when, and why?
To fully know who I am and whose I am?
Is it wrong to think and contemplate, to ponder and hypothesize?
Should I pretend to be less?
Should I shrink and fade away?
Or should I open my mouth, share my thoughts, and put my greatness on display?

#BookReview - Why Not Take All of Me

Why Not Take All of MeWhy Not Take All of Me by Joel Peckham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am a fan of Lady Day--the legend and her music. That being said, this collection of poetry is a fitting and beautiful tribute to her. Atmospheric and emotional, visual and gritty, this work is a must read for lovers of music and poetry. I absolutely loved it and hated for it to end. Highly recommend.

#WriterWednesday - Poetry Collection Cover Reveal

Hello, everyone!! Today I'm sharing the cover I created for my new poetry collection, Poetry from the Soul... for the Soul, Volume II. It has been a fun project because I wrote poetry for years before I ever thought to write a book. Poetry has always helped me deal with the ups and downs of life and has been a healthy way for me to express my emotions. I don't expect this book to break any sales records, but I do look forward to sharing it with my readers.

I plan to release it before this year's end, but have no concrete release date. Like I said, this project has been fun for me and I don't want to make it any less than that. No pressure, no deadlines.

So here it is. It's different and it coincides with the cover for Volume I of the collection. I really like it!

Click on the cover below to download Volume I for FREE!!

Happy Reading!!
