#WriterWednesday with Author Randy Weir

Today my #WriterWednesday interview is with Author Randy Weir. Enjoy!!

AT: Where do you live? What’s your town’s claim to fame?
RW: I live in Aurora Colorado, a suburb of Denver. Over 300 days a year of sunshine and the gateway to the Rockies.

AT: Nice! What genre do you write?
RW: Current series is Mystery/Detective stories. I’ve also written three Thrillers that were never published.

AT: Oh, wow! You've got to get those books out there! I love Thrillers! Are you a published author or aspiring to be published? If published, how many books are out there with your name on them?
RW: I am self-published, with 6 so far, all the Jarvis Mann Detective Series under the name R Weir

AT: Sounds good! What inspires you to write?
RW: Mostly the words are in my head, waiting to be written. There are times when the thoughts are so vivid I have to get them down, to release them from my brain.

AT: I truly understand how that feels. Name one book you wish you’d written.
RW: Any of Ian Fleming's James Bond books. They are all great and he is a character that seems like will live forever.

AT: Good choice! What was the last book you read? Did you enjoy it?
RW: The Martian, by Andy Weir. No relation. It was great and the movie with Matt Damon was one of the better movie book adaptions.

AT: Are you sure there's no relation? Maybe you could claim his as a cousin? LOL. Who is your favorite author? Why?
RW: Robert B. Parker. He always had an easy flow to his books, with humor, danger and excitement.

AT: Sounds like good reading to me! Now for the fun questions! You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
RW: Rocky Mountain Orange Sunset

AT: Sounds beautiful! What would your autobiography be called?
RW: Are you really Jarvis Mann? The peaceful life of R Weir

AT: Love it! Do you believe in love at first sight?
RW: I do, as it was love at first sight when I first saw my daughter after she was born.

AT: Awwww. If a genie granted you three wishes, what would they be? (can't ask for more wishes)
RW: Health for everyone in my family, peace and happiness in the world, and the guarantee of safe passage as I rode my motorcycle across the USA.

AT: Nice! Are you spring, summer, fall, or winter? Please share why.
RW: Spring, when everything is new, fresh and full of life.

AT: Tea or coffee?
RW: Neither. I dislike both equally.

AT: Not a fan of caffeine, eh? Tell us about your most recent/current project.
RW: The latest book released June 24th is titled “The Case of the Invisible Souls”.

Here is a blurb from it:

With Christmas a few weeks away and happy these last few months had been quiet, Jarvis Mann decides to take on an interesting case. A homeless veteran knocks on his door with a story of how several of his homeless companions have been bribed and taxied away never to return. Taking pause to the man’s story at first, Jarvis digs deeper learning of plans to clear out the homeless. When the man is attacked, and seriously injured, Jarvis goes undercover, learning more about life on the streets than he ever knew, becoming one of the Invisible Souls in search of an answer.

I’m currently a third of the way through the next Jarvis Mann Detective novel titled “The Front Range Butcher”. Jarvis tries to track down a brutal serial killer who has resurfaced 25 years later.

AT: Both sound so good! How can readers connect with you?

AT: Any final words?
RW: Thanks to all the readers out there that support indie authors. The greatest gift you can give us is after reading, placing an honest review of the book on Amazon, Goodreads and wherever else it is sold. Nothing makes an author’s day more than reading a review. I enjoy every single one, including the bad ones, so long as they are written constructively. And be sure to reach out to authors. They love to hear from readers, either via email or social media.

AT: I agree!

Excerpt

Zoe shivered as the wind picked up and swirled the fallen leaves around her feet. The tree branches above her head had started to sway in the wind and brushed against her head scarf. She looked around the grounds, which were cast in shadows. It was a moonless night and the smell of rain hung in the air adding to her growing annoyance. They were standing just outside their backdoor. Eva had one hand resting on the panel, and Zoe put her arms around her waist and rested her head against her back.
“It’s getting cold. Can we hurry up?”
Zoe heard Eva’s quiet chuckle as she went about unlocking the door. “You have the patience of a flea, and just so you know, the flea is probably deeply offended,” Eva whispered making both of them laugh. A soft click was all that was heard when Eva slid the bolt as quietly as she could make it. “All done.”
“What was that?”
“That was the bolt, love. I muffled the noise.”
It still amazed Zoe every time she saw Eva use one of her gifts.
Eva slowly pushed the door open only to hear a loud scraping noise. She turned around and stared wide eyed at Zoe.
“What is a chair doing there?”
Zoe sighed. “My fault. I told Berta to put a chair there.”
“You do know that if someone wanted to break in, they can go through those large windows?”
“It made sense at the time,” Zoe whispered as they entered the kitchen.
“I love you dearly but sometimes you just do the funniest things.”
“I know.” Zoe giggled. She pulled Eva’s shirt and Eva stopped and turned around. “Can you feel them?”
“Yes. Two humans.”
“At least they’re not demons, because that would require more than my gun.”
“I’m pretty sure even the demons fear you.”
“Ha ha, smarty pants. Let’s go scare the idiots inside. They are bound to have heard the chair.”
“Maybe they didn’t.”
A gentle thump-thump above their heads indicated whoever was up there was on the move. “Okay, let’s go.” Zoe took the safety lock off her gun. She was about to move forward when she felt Eva’s arms around her. They held each other for a moment and then Eva kissed her on the head. Without another word, Zoe edged forward with Eva behind her. Eva’s height was enough to warn Zoe if anything was coming and she had a clear line of sight to whatever was coming towards them.
Zoe came to the entrance of the living room and stopped. She looked up into the darkened ceiling. The intruders were up there and they were slowly heading their way.

Dead In a Park #Book Blitz

Mystery / Romance
Date Published: November 12, 2015

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

When Leah Norwood finds the body of Donald Collins in the city park, she doesn’t know he is a distant relative. Young Donnie was a jewel thief and a career criminal. Hidden in the lining of his suit jacket was an exact replica of a ring that has been in Leah’s family for over a hundred years. After her home is burglarized, the sexy chief of police is convinced the ruby ring has something to do with the murder.

Leah wants to find out what happened to Donnie, but why would someone kill for a hundred year old ring? She discovers a connection between Donnie and the drug-dealing Cantono family, between the Cantono family and a jewelry appraiser, and between the jewelry appraiser and one of her own employees. Chief Griggs might be onto something. All clues lead back to the family ring.

Leah loves a good mystery. Can she find the killer before the killer strikes again?

EXCERPT

“You didn’t know the victim?” Griggs asked when he returned his attention to me.
“I don’t think so, but I didn’t really see his face.” I paused and then asked, “Who was he?”
“We don’t know,” he replied. “He didn’t have any identification, no wallet, no keys, nothing.”
“How did he get here?”
“Why do you want to know?”
“Just curious,” I said innocently.
Griggs’ eyes were full of amusement as he looked at me, and Reddish laughed. They both know all about my curiosity. I love a good mystery. I read a lot of detective novels and try to solve the mystery along with the protagonist. Movies that feature a mystery are my favorite. If a crime makes the news, I take notes and follow along. I fancy myself a sideline detective. That trait may have been what got me almost killed just before Christmas.
“We don’t know,” Reddish answered my question. “The uniforms didn’t find any unaccounted for vehicle.”
David Reddish is a hard man to read. He has been a police officer for over thirty years and a detective for the Reed Hill Police Department for eight having moved to town from Dallas. He is a large man, attractive, with broad shoulders and flat stomach. He has skin the color of coffee with a dash cream, but it is his eyes that tell you he’s not someone you want to cross. They are hard and calculating.
“Was he murdered?” I asked softly.
“Oh, yes. It was murder,” Griggs replied.
The last time I found a body it had never occurred to me that the police would consider me a suspect. As a law-abiding citizen, I had just assumed that people knew I was innocent. My experience with the police showed me I was wrong. I looked at both Griggs and Reddish.
“Please tell me you don’t think I killed him.”
Griggs snorted. “No, we don’t think you killed him. He was taller than you, and his neck was broken. No way could you have done that.”
“It was fast and neat,” Reddish added and then turned to Griggs. “Probably someone with military or combat training.”
“Someone who knows how to kill with their hands,” Griggs said softly.
I swallowed. Candace had shot and killed two people in December and tried to kill me twice. She had been crazy, her behavior unexpected and unpredictable, which had made the situation scary. This sounded worse. A person who was calm and rational murdering someone with their bare hands was chilling. And I couldn’t forget about the weird shoe thing.
“Did you find his shoes?”
“No,” Griggs replied turning toward me.
“Why would someone want his shoes?”
“Who knows? There wasn’t much of a struggle although there were multiple sets of footprints. But all appeared to be made by people wearing shoes.” He turned away from me and back toward Reddish. “Between Leah and her dog stomping around, I doubt we’ll get any viable footprints.”
“Hey,” I said indignantly. Both men ignored me.
“Let’s keep the area secure anyway,” Griggs continued. “Send a team out to see if they can find anything. Maybe the shoes will show up somewhere else in the park.”
“Got it,” Reddish replied as he started to walk away. “See you around, Leah.”
“Bye, David,” I said reluctantly. I didn’t want to be alone with Griggs. It was awkward and unpleasant. I’m not exactly sure why he had kissed me and then disappeared from my life, but I wasn’t going to ask. I hadn’t thought he would be interested in me in the first place. Although not traditionally handsome, Griggs is an extremely attractive and sexy man. After waiting weeks for him to call or come by, I finally chalked it up to a gaffe on his part. Instead of telling me he wasn’t interested, he simply disappeared. If I hadn’t found this body, I probably would have never seen him again except in passing.
We stood there in silence for a few moments before Griggs said, “You can leave now. Thank you for your patience.”
He sounded so formal and polite. I didn’t like it. I gathered Harry’s leash, pulled him up, and started to walk away. “Well, I guess…I guess I’ll see you around.”
Griggs stepped back and let me pass. I hadn’t gotten very far before I heard him call my name. When I turned around, he was standing in the same spot with an odd look on his face. He rubbed his hand across his head and then gave me a slight smile. “It was good to see you, Leah.”
“Uh, yeah, you too,” I stuttered before we both turned and walked away.
